If you have kids who are still in diapers, you’re likely no stranger to the occasional diaper stain on clothing. Luckily, there are a few easy ways to tackle these stains and restore your outerwear to its former glory.

Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain

Start by pre-treating the stained area with a dab of laundry detergent. For best results, use a detergent specifically designed for fighting stains. Then, let it sit for 5-10 minutes before washing as normal.

Step 2: Wash as Normal

Once the pre-treatment is complete, wash the clothing as you would normally. You may want to use a laundry detergent that’s intended for delicates or that’s made for colors, depending on the type of clothing or fabric. Also, use cold water settings since hot water can set the stain.

Step 3: Air Dry or Use Low Heat Setting

Once the clothing has been washed, air dry or use a low heat setting on your dryer. High-heat settings have been known to further set the stain, so it’s important to keep the temperature low.

Step 4: Re-Treat & Repeat if Needed

If the stain isn’t completely gone after the first wash, you may need to re-treat and repeat the process. It may take more than one cycle before the stain is completely removed.

Step 5: Spot Clean if Necessary

If you’re still having trouble getting rid of the stain, you may want to spot clean the area using an oxygen-based bleach and water solution. Follow the directions on the label for further instructions.
