Maxi dresses are a perennial favorite for women everywhere and can be the perfect outfit choice for everything from the office to a night out. Unfortunately, they can also pick up pesky diaper stains that can ruin look of an otherwise perfect garment. But don't worry — you don't have to throw out your dress! Here's a step-by-step guide on how to remove diaper stains from maxi dresses.

Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain

The first step in removing diaper stains is to pre-treat the affected area. Start by lightly dabbing the stain with a mild detergent solution, such as a gentle laundry soap diluted with warm water. Then, spray the area with a stain remover or an enzyme-based detergent. Let the pre-treatment sit for about 5 minutes.

Step 2: Wash the Dress

Once the pre-treatment has had enough time to work, it's time to wash maxi dress. Be sure to follow the garment's directions for laundering — some maxi dresses might require special care. However, for most cases, you'll want to set your washing machine to a gentle cycle and use a mild detergent. After the wash cycle is finished, check dress for any remaining stains.

Step 3: Dry Dress

Once the dress is clean, you'll want to hang it up or lay it flat to air dry. Don't put it in the dryer — heat can set in any remaining stains and make them nearly impossible to remove.

Step 4: Repeat if Necessary

If you still see some traces of the diaper stain after the initial cleaning process, it may be necessary to repeat steps 1-4. However, if you still can't get the stain out, it may be time to take the dress to a professional cleaner.

Bonus Tips

  • Be sure to check all care tags on the dress before washing.
  • You may want to spot test the cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area of the dress before applying it to the stain.
  • You might also want to try using a combination of dish soap and white vinegar to pretreat the stain.
