Before washing a garment with a diaper stain, it’s important to pre-treat the stain first. The best way to do this is to gently dab rubbing alcohol onto the affected area. Allow the alcohol to sit on the stain for up to 10 minutes before proceeding. As an alternative, use a powerful laundry pre-treatment spray or liquid detergent that is designed to tackle persistent stains.
When it comes time to wash the garment, be sure to turn it inside out to avoid any rubbing of fabric against the diaper stain. Use a mild detergent and cold water when washing to avoid any further damage to the fabric. After washing, carefully remove the garment from machine and use a white towel to pat the area so as to soak up any remaining moisture.
When drying garment with the diaper stain, avoid using dryers or direct sunlight. Instead, lay the garment flat somewhere cool and dry. When garment is completely dry, examine the area to see if the stain is still present and take additional steps, if needed.
