It is important to act quickly when dealing with stains on keds or other shoes. Diapers often contain oils, proteins and acids that cause the color to set quickly and become harder to remove. The sooner you address the problem, better chance you have of removing the stain. Here’s what you need to do:
It is also crucial to keep your keds away from direct sunlight. Ultraviolet rays from sun can cause diaper stains to set quickly and become more difficult to remove. To minimize this risk, make sure that your children’s shoes are stored in a cool, dark place when not being worn.
Finally, while many parents opt for hand-washing their keds, using a washing machine can help to effectively remove diaper stains. Make sure that the temperature of the water is set to “cold” and use a gentle cycle. Add a mild detergent and let it soak for about 20 minutes.
Once the cycle has completed, remove the shoes from washer and let them air-dry. Do not put them in the dryer as this can cause the fabric to shrink and the felt to become brittle. If done correctly, the diapers stains should be gone forever!
