When a baby wears a diaper, sometimes the diaper can leave behind stain marks on their clothing or other materials. Headbands are no exception. Diaper stains can quickly discolor a fabric headband, making it look worn, dingy and unattractive. However, with the right tactics, you can safely remove these stains and restore your baby’s headbands to their former glory.

What You’ll Need

  • Laundry detergent
  • Clean towel or cloth
  • Bowl of warm water
  • White vinegar
  • Enzyme-based stain remover

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Ready the headband. For more delicate headbands, you will want to hand-wash to avoid any damage. Place the headband in a bowl of warm water and let soak for five minutes.
  2. Mix a solution of half laundry detergent and half water in a separate bowl. Dip a clean towel or cloth into the mixture and rub it onto the stained parts of the headband.
  3. Let area soak for 10 minutes and then check the headband again. If the stain is still visible, pour a few drops of white vinegar on the noticed area and rub stain with a cloth.
  4. Leave to sit for 15 minutes, before rinsing headband with cold water. Let the headband dry completely.
  5. If the stain is still present, try using an enzyme-based stain remover. Follow the instructions per the product directions and repeat the other steps.

Warnings

  • Be sure to test all cleaning products on a small area of fabric to ensure the color of fabric won't be affected.
  • Never use hot water on baby clothing and accessories as this can set any stains that may have been removed.
  • Always wash the fabric after removing the stain to remove any residue.

Tips

  • Treat stains as soon as possible to avoid them setting in deeper.
  • You can also use a soft bristle brush or toothbrush to help loosen stains.
  • The same cleaning method can be applied to other baby items, such as bibs and bedding.
