Before you attempt to wash the stained fabric, you should pre-treat it. This will help loosen up the stain and make it easier to remove. Try combining equal parts laundry detergent and cold water, and mix until it foams. Dip a white cloth in solution and blot the stain. Let the solution sit on the fabric for a few minutes before moving onto the next step.
After pre-treating the stain, rinse the fabric using cold water. Run the fabric under the faucet for a few minutes. Do not use hot water, as this can cause the stain to set. For especially tough stains, you should run cool water over the fabric for about five minutes before rinsing with cold water.
Once you’ve pre-treated and rinsed the stained fabric, it’s time to wash it. Place the fabric in the washer and select a gentle cycle. Use a mild detergent, such as Woolite, and select a cold water setting on the washer. Do not put the fabric in the dryer; instead, hang it out to dry.
If the stain is still visible after washing, repeat steps 1-3 until the stain is completely removed. If the stain is stubborn and won’t come out, you may need to take fabric to a professional dry cleaner.
