Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain With a Detergent-Based Spot Cleaner

Start by pre-treating the stain with a detergent-based spot cleaner. Wet a sponge or cloth with the cleaner and gently rub it onto stained area. Make sure that you do not use too much pressure, as this will damage fabric. Allow the cleaner to sit on the stain for a few minutes, then rinse the item with cold water.

Step 2: Apply a Soaking Solution

Create a solution made up of 1 part detergent and 10 parts water. Submerge the item in the solution for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the detergent to penetrate deep into fibers and help loosen stain.

Step 3: Give It a Wash

Once item has been soaked, move it to the washing machine and give it a regular wash on the delicate cycle using cold water. You may also want to add a color safe bleach to the water to help brighten the item and remove any lingering stains.

Step 4: Air Dry

After washing, hang the item up to air dry. Do not tumble dry it, as this can cause the fabric to shrink or become misshapen. Once the item is completely dry, inspect it to ensure that all of the stains have been removed.

Tips to Keep in Mind

  • Always test any cleaning products that you use on an inconspicuous area of the garment before applying it to stain.
  • Choose a detergent that is specifically designed for sensitive skin, as this will help prevent irritation.
  • Do not rub or scrub the stain, as this can damage the fabric.
