Diaper accidents often result in grimy stains on clothing, but with patience and the right supplies, you can be successful in removing them from your evening gown. Here’s what you need to do:

Remove as much fresh diaper mess as possible

The first step is to remove as much of the fresh diaper mess as possible. Use a cloth or paper towel to blot up the stain, being sure not to rub it into the fabric. Avoid using a brush or sponge, as these can set the mess into the material.

Apply a stain remover

Once you have removed as much as possible, apply a stain remover to the area. Spray the cloth or paper towel with the stain remover and gently blot the stained area. Repeat until the fabric no longer shows signs of the stain.

Soak garment in enzyme solution

Next, mix a solution of one cup of oxygen-based bleach with one gallon of cold water in a tub or sink. Let the evening gown soak in the solution for 30 minutes, then rinse off the garment with cold water.

Wash garment as usual

Finally, wash the evening gown in the machine using the warmest setting that is appropriate for the fabric and a gentle detergent. Hang garment on a clothesline or lay flat to dry.
