Start by separating the stained area. Identify the type of fabric so you know what kind of treatment you'll need. For example, delicate fabrics require more careful treatment than sturdy fabrics.
Before cleaning the item, pre-treat the stained area by blotting away any excess moisture. Use an enzymatic detergent that specifically targets baby stains. If possible, use a laundry spot remover to treat fresh stains.
Wash the item using cold water and a gentle cycle. If the fabric is delicate, put it in a mesh laundry bag for extra protection. Don't forget to read the care label on item before washing it.
When the cycle is finished, allow item to air dry. This will help prevent any further damage to the fabric. If the fabric is delicate, you may need to dry it inside-out.
Once the item has been air-dried, check the stain. If it's still visible, spot-treat it again or try repeating the previous steps to get rid of it.
