When it comes to diaper stains, pre-treating area is essential. To do that, mix one part water to one part white vinegar, and dip a clean cloth in the solution. You can then gently blot stained area with this cloth to help loosen the mess. Let the solution sit for 15 minutes or so, before progressing to the next step.
Once stain is pre-treated, you can rinse the garment with cold tap water. It’s important to use cold water in this instance, as hot water may further set the stain. Rinse until all of the vinegar solution is removed, and the cloth no longer reveals any remnants of the stain.
Once the garment is rinsed, apply detergent (not bleach) to the stain, and rub it in gently. Allow the detergent to sit for 15 minutes, and then rinse again with cold water. The detergent should have loosened the remaining diaper stain, making it easier to remove.
Finally, the garment can be air dried or machine dried. If air drying, look at garment from time to time to check if the stain has fully come out. If it has not, repeat the steps above.
It’s always best to work on diaper and other tough stains as quickly as possible. For added protection, you may also want to apply a stain guard or spot cleaner before wearing the garment.
