Stains can be daunting and unpleasant to deal with, especially on garments like ball gowns. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to help protect your child’s dress and make sure it looks as good as new. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to clean diaper stains from ball gowns:

Step One: Gather Your Supplies

Before you start trying to remove the stain, make sure you have all the supplies you need such as:

  • Clean cloths
  • Cold water
  • Laundry detergent
  • Hydrogen peroxide (if needed)
  • White vinegar (if needed)
  • Baking soda (if needed)

Step Two: Pre-Treat the Stain With Cold Water

Using a clean, damp cloth, blot the stain with cold water. This will help to loosen the stain, making it easier to remove. Avoid using hot water as this can set stain.

Step Three: Apply Detergent

Once you have blotted the stain, apply laundry detergent directly onto the stain. Rub the detergent in gently with a cloth, using a circular motion to spread the detergent around. Let the detergent sit on the stain for a few minutes.

Step Four: Rinse with Cold Water

After the detergent has had time to work, rinse spot with cold water. Use a clean cloth to blot out excess water.

Step Five: Repeat Until Satisfied

If the stain still remains, repeat the process until the stain is gone. Keep in mind that other types of stains might require different methods of removal, so be sure to check the garment’s label and manufacturer’s instructions before attempting to clean it.

Step Six: Air Dry

To finish the process, allow garment to air dry. Once dry, check the area to make sure the stain is completely gone and that the fabric hasn’t been damaged by the cleaning process.

Additional Tips

  • Always test any cleaning products on an inconspicuous area of the fabric first.
  • For tougher stains, try mixing equal parts of white vinegar and water and dabbing the solution onto stain with a clean cloth before repeating the steps above.
  • For stains that won't come out, you may need to use hydrogen peroxide or baking soda. Follow same steps as above, but use extra caution when using these materials.
