When dealing with a dessert wine stain on wool, your first step should be to rinse the area with cool running water, taking care not to rub or scrub the fabric. This will help loosen stain before you attempt further treatment.

After rinsing, mix one tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent with two cups warm water in a shallow bowl. Dip a clean sponge or cloth into the soapy solution, then blot stained area. Again, be sure to work from the edges of stain inwards, as rubbing can set the stain more deeply into the fabric.

Once the area has been thoroughly blotted, rinse it with cool water again, and allow the fabric to air dry. If stain has not come out completely, you may want to repeat the above steps, or try other techniques such as soaking the fabric overnight in a solution of warm water, dish soap, and borax.

It is also possible to treat dessert wine stains on wool with a commercial stain remover. Follow product directions carefully and make sure that it’s safe to use on wool fabrics before applying.

As with any stain, it is important to treat the spot as quickly as possible. The longer a stain sits, the more difficult it is to remove. Taking prompt action is your best bet for getting the stain out of your wool garment.
