Removing Dessert Wine Stains from Velvet: A Proven Cleaning Method

Accidentally spilling a glass of dessert wine on your velvet couch can be an absolute nightmare. Don’t panic! Follow these steps for a foolproof way to remove the stains.

What You’ll Need

  • A spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • A clean rag
  • Baking soda

Instructions

  1. Gently blot the stain with a dry cloth. Do not rub the velvet fabric.
  2. In the spray bottle, mix equal parts white vinegar and water. Shake the bottle to combine the liquids.
  3. Lightly mist area with your vinegar solution. Be sure not to soak the fabric.
  4. Blot area using a clean, damp rag.
  5. Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 1/4 cup of warm water. Apply the mixture to the stain.
  6. Once the baking soda has dried, gently brush off excess powder with a clean rag.
  7. Repeat steps 2 to 6 as necessary until the stain is completely removed.

Once you’ve followed these steps, you should find that the stain has been removed. If any residue remains, repeat the process until the stain is gone.
