What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Cotton balls or cloth
  • Hydrogen peroxide (3%)
  • Hairspray
  • Rubbing alcohol

Step 1: Blot Stain

Begin by blotting affected area with a clean cloth or cotton ball. Do not rub or scrub, which will only spread the stain. Continue to blot until as much liquid as possible has been soaked up.

Step 2: Pretreat with Vinegar

Mix one part white vinegar with two parts warm water in a shallow bowl. Dip a clean cloth or cotton ball into the mixture and gently blot the stained area, being careful not to rub the stained area.

Step 3: Wash with Dish Soap

Create a mixture of one part dish soap and two parts warm water. Apply a generous amount of the mixture to the stained area and work into a lather using your fingertips. Rinse thoroughly.

Step 4: Treat with Hydrogen Peroxide

If the stain persists, mix one part hydrogen peroxide with two parts warm water in a shallow bowl. Soak a clean cloth in the mixture and apply it to stain, allowing to sit for 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

Step 5: Try Hairspray or Rubbing Alcohol

If the stain is still visible, try spritzing the area with hairspray or rubbing alcohol. Allow solution to sit for 5 minutes before blotting with a clean cloth. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat if necessary.
