Step 1: Blot the Stain with a Clean Towel

As soon as you notice the spill, blot it with a clean towel instead of rubbing it in. This will help prevent wine from spreading and setting deeply into the fibers.

Step 2: Soak the Stain in Cold Water

Fill a sink or basin with cold water and submerge the stained portion of your sweater. Let it sit for 10 minutes before moving on to the next step.

Step 3: Create a Cleaning Solution

Mix together equal parts warm water and white vinegar. Stir until mixture is combined. You can also add a small amount of mild dish detergent to the mix if needed.

Step 4: Apply the Solution to the Stain

Take the solution and gently dab it onto the affected area of your sweater. Be sure not to rub stain or else it could spread.

Step 5: Rinse Out the Cleaning Solution

Rinse the cleaning solution out of the sweater using cold water. Make sure all of the solution has been washed away before moving on to the next step.

Step 6: Wash the Sweater in the Machine

If the stain is still visible after rinsing, fill the washing machine with cold water and add the sweater. Let it run through the cycle and then hang it to dry.
