The most important step in removing a dessert wine stain from silk shantung material is to make sure you remove as much of the liquid as possible. As soon as the liquid comes into contact with the fabric, start blotting it with a paper towel or similar absorbent cloth. Keep dabbing until the area is dry.
Once you’ve blotted up the spilled dessert wine, pour a small amount of spot cleaner directly onto the stained area. Gently rub spot cleaner into the stain using a white cloth. Work in circular motions until the stain is removed. If stain isn’t immediately removed, you can repeat this process several times to ensure it’s gone.
Once you’ve treated the stained area, rinse the fabric with clean water. This will help to remove any remaining spot cleaner from fabric and prevent further staining. To do this, fill a bowl or sink with lukewarm water and submerge the fabric. Swish the fabric around in the water and then rinse the area with cold water to ensure all the cleaner is gone.
When the fabric is clean, hang it up to dry. Make sure to use a clothes hanger that won’t snag the fabric and damage it. Allow it to air dry completely before storing or wearing it.
