The first step to removing the stain is to blot it lightly with a white cloth. This will help remove some of the excess wine and stop it from spreading. However, it is important not to rub the spot as this can cause the stain to set further in fabric.
Mix together equal parts rubbing alcohol and cold water in a bowl or cup. Dip a new white cloth into the solution and then dab it onto the stain. Again, it is important not to rub the stained area in order to keep the silk from fraying or setting stain.
Once you’ve blotted and dabbed the stain, rinse the fabric with cold water. Now your silk item can be laundered as usual, using a gentle detergent such as Woolite. Make sure the wine stain is completely removed before putting the item in the dryer—otherwise, the heat will set the stain.
By following these three simple steps, you can easily remove dessert wine stains from your delicate silk fabrics. With a little bit of patience and the right cleaning solution, you’ll be able to get rid of those pesky wine stains in no time.
