First and foremost, use a dry cloth or sponge to blot the stain as much as you can. Avoid scrubbing the stain, as this will only increase the spread of the stain and worsen the material.
Once the excess liquid has been blotted out, next step is to pour some white vinegar over the stain. This will help to dissolve the sugar molecules in the dessert wine, making it easier to remove the stain. Allow vinegar to sit on the stain for 10 minutes before continuing.
After the vinegar has done its job, create a mixture of equal parts dish soap and baking soda. Make sure to mix it up until it becomes a paste-like consistency. Apply the paste directly onto stain, and use a brush or rag to gently rub it in.
Once you have applied the mixture of detergent and baking soda, use a damp cloth to blot area once again. The goal here is to absorb as much liquid as possible, so make sure to do this repeatedly until no more liquid can be extracted.
Once all liquid has been removed, rinse area with cool water. Make sure to keep rinsing until all traces of soap and baking soda have been removed. Once finished, pat area dry with a clean towel.
Once the area has completely dried, use a vacuum cleaner to remove any remaining residue from the stain. This will ensure that the stain has been completely removed.
Cleaning dessert wine stains from shearling doesn't have to be difficult. With the right technique and a few simple ingredients, you can easily remove the stain and restore the material to its former glory.
