If your favorite bottle of sweet dessert wine ended up all over your scrubs, you don’t need to worry about seeing those telltale stains for rest of your career. Pre-treat the stained areas with a pre-wash stain remover and launder in the hottest water the fabric can handle. This won’t completely remove the stain all the time, but it will remove as much of the surface stain as possible. Be sure to also add a biological detergent to aid in removing the stain further.

For further stain removal treatments, mix a solution of ⅔ cup white vinegar and ⅓ cup liquid dishwashing detergent in one gallon of warm water. Soak the stained fabrics in this mixture for at least 30 minutes. Afterward, rinse the fabric in cold water, then wash and dry as usual. Additionally, you can use regular laundry detergent or a laundry product designed to get rid of stubborn stains.

If there’s still trace evidence of the stain when the garment is dry, there are a few other tricks you can try. Start by mixing two tablespoons of baking soda with two drops of lemon essential oil in a cup of water to form a paste. Apply the paste to the affected area and rub gently with the brush side of a scrub pad. Leave the paste on the fabric for at least an hour, then rinse it away in cool water.

Finally, one of more well-known methods of tackling particularly nasty stains involves adding ¼ cup of hydrogen peroxide to half a cup of cold water. Wet the stained area with the mixture and allow it to set for 15 minutes before washing and drying as normal.

With these little tips and tricks up your sleeve, those pesky dessert wine stains won’t stand a chance.
