What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Towels
  • Liquid detergent
  • Laundry enzyme booster

Step 1: Blot the Stain

As soon as you notice the stain, start to blot it immediately with a clean towel. Do not rub; this will spread the stain! Blotting helps absorb some of wine and prevent it from setting in.

Step 2: Cover with Baking Soda

Once you have blotted as much of the wine as possible, cover the affected area with baking soda. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to absorb any remaining liquid. Then brush off the baking soda.

Step 3: Soak in White Vinegar

Fill a basin with warm water and add white vinegar until it has a two-to-one vinegar-to-water ratio. Soak the pullover in the mixture for 30 minutes and then rinse with cold water.

Step 4: Wash with Solution

Create a solution by mixing 2 tablespoons of salt, 2 tablespoons of liquid detergent and 2 tablespoons of laundry enzyme booster in a quart of warm water. Soak pullover in solution for 30 minutes and then rinse with cold water.

Step 5: Air Dry or Machine Dry

Allow the pullover to dry in the open air or tumble dry on the lowest heat setting.
