The first thing you'll want to do is address any excess liquid that could still be on the fabric. Never rub or scrub at a stain - it will only serve to further set the stain into the fabric. Instead, use a dry cloth or paper towel to gently blot away any remaining moisture. You may need to move to a clean area of the cloth or paper towel while doing this as the liquid is transferred.
Next, you'll want to pretreat stain with an appropriate cleaning solution. For dessert wine stains on poplin, you'll want to use a laundry detergent that contains enzymes, such as Tide Original High Efficiency Laundry Detergent. Mix one part of the detergent with two parts warm water and soak the stain for 5-10 minutes, then rinse with cool water.
Once stain has been washed, you'll want to treat it with a stronger solution. Fill a bucket with one gallon of hot water and mix in ½ cup of white vinegar. Soak the stained area of the poplin in the solution for at least 15 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Let the fabric air dry.
Once the poplin fabric has been soaked and rinsed, you'll want to treat it with a commercial stain remover. Spray the stained area liberally with the solution and let sit for 10 minutes. Rub the solution into the fabric gently before rinsing with cool water. After this final treatment, let the fabric air dry completely before using again.
