Quickly rinse the stained area as soon as possible with cold water. The cold water helps to keep stain from setting into fabric. It's best to do this immediately when stain is noticed so that it doesn't become set in fabric.
Once the cold water rinsing is complete, apply a bit of detergent and warm water to the stain. Work it in gently while blotting the area. Be sure not to rub fabric harshly; this may cause stain to spread. Rinse the stained area with cold water once you've worked in the soap and water, and then left it out to air dry.
If the stain is still lingering after first two methods, pour a small amount of vinegar onto the stained area. Work it in while blotting stain, and then leave to sit for 10 minutes. Blot the vinegar away with a damp cloth, and then rinse the area with cold water. Hang or lay the item flat to air dry.
To ensure that dessert wine does not stain your polyester fabric, consider using a tablecloth or napkin when enjoying the tasty beverage. If a stain does occur, be sure to act quickly by following steps outlined above. Regular cleaning and washing of your polyester fabrics will help prolong the life of your clothing.
