Removing Fresh Stains

If the dessert wine stain is still wet, blot it with a paper towel or white cloth. Blotting helps to absorb and lift the stain before it sets into the fabric. Be sure to not spread the stain around. Once you’ve blotted it, dab the area with cold water to help rinse out the stain.

Removing Set-In Stains

For set-in stains, mix a teaspoon of a mild detergent with a cup of lukewarm water. Dab a white cloth into the solution and then apply it to stain. Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then blot the area with a dry towel. Repeat this process until the stain is gone. Do not rub fabric or you might spread the stain further.

Using Vinegar or Rubbing Alcohol

If the stain is still persistent, another helpful approach is to create a mixture of equal parts water and white vinegar. Dab a clean cloth into the solution and apply it to the stain. Let it sit for a few minutes before blotting it with a dry cloth. For tougher stains, you can also try using rubbing alcohol instead of white vinegar. Rubbing alcohol also helps to break down and remove stubborn stains.

Using Detergent and Ammonia

If all else fails, mix together a teaspoon of non-bleach liquid detergent with a tablespoon of ammonia. Carefully apply solution to the stain and then allow it to sit for a few minutes. Blot the area with a dry cloth and be sure not to rub fabric.

Preventing Future Stains

To help prevent future stains and spills, you can treat your piqué fabric with a stain resistant spray. Doing so will help keep your fabric looking its best for longer, and help make future clean ups faster and easier.
