What You Will Need

  • White vinegar
  • Cold water
  • Laundry detergent
  • Baking soda
  • Soft cloths or sponges

Step 1: Blot the Stain with a Soft Cloth

If the dessert wine stain is fresh, gently blot the area with a soft cloth or paper towel to soak up as much of the liquor as possible. If the stain has been allowed to set for some time, use a butter knife to scrape off any excess residue before blottling.

Step 2: Apply White Vinegar and Cold Water

Mix equal parts white vinegar and cold water and apply to the affected area. Gently massage the solution into fabric with your fingers or a soft cloth. Be sure not to rub too hard so that the fibers aren’t damaged. Let the solution sit for several minutes before rinsing with cold water.

Step 3: Apply Detergent and Baking Soda

Make a paste by mixing together laundry detergent and baking soda. Rub the paste onto the stained area in gentle circular motions. Allow the paste to sit for a few minutes before rinsing with cold water. Repeat the steps if necessary.

Step 4: Launder as Usual

Finally, launder your pencil skirt as usual according to care instructions. Inspect the garment for any remaining stains before drying and in case there are any, repeat the above steps and launder again.
