Instructions
- Gently blot stain with a white cloth or paper towel. Don't rub it because this can spread the stain.
- Mix a solution of one tablespoon dish soap and 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide in one quart (four cups) of warm water.
- Gently dab the affected area of your macramé with solution and let it sit for about 10 minutes.
- Rinse off the solution with cold water.
- Repeat until the stain is gone, drying the macramé in between each attempt.
Tips
- Be sure to use store-bought hydrogen peroxide as opposed to homemade or food-grade. Other variations of hydrogen peroxide could damage your macramé creation.
- If you don’t have any hydrogen peroxide, you can use a solution of 1/4 cup white vinegar mixed with one quart (four cups) of warm water instead.
- Avoid using hot water on delicate macramé pieces as this may shrink or damage them.
- If the stain persists, take your piece to a professional dry cleaner.
Warnings
- Do not scrub the stain. This can cause stain to spread and set in deeper.
- Test any cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area of your macramé first.
- Before attempting any cleaning, check care tag on your macramé – some fabrics may be dry-clean only.
