What You'll Need:

  • White vinegar
  • Towel
  • Water
  • Liquid detergent
  • Chamois or leather cleaner
  • Soft cloth
  • Cotton swabs

Step 1 – Blot the Stain

Start by blotting the stain with a clean towel to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Do not scrub or rub the material, as this could damage fabric.

Step 2 – Apply White Vinegar

Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar into two cups of warm water then pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Spray the stain with the solution, making sure to cover it thoroughly. Allow vinegar to sit for 15 minutes.

Step 3 – Rinse Stain

Rinse stain with warm water and blot the area with a dry towel. Make sure that the entire area is rinsed and all of the vinegar has been removed.

Step 4 – Apply Detergent

Mix a teaspoon of liquid detergent with two cups of warm water. Apply the solution to the stained area and gently work it in with your fingers. Rinse the area with warm water and blot with a dry towel to remove any remaining detergent.

Step 5 – Clean with a Chamois or Leather Cleaner

If stain persists after these steps, use a chamois or leather cleaner to help loosen the stain from the fabric. Apply cleaner with a soft cloth and carefully rub it into the area. Rinse with warm water and blot the area with a dry towel.

Step 6 – Remove Remaining Stains with Cotton Swabs

For any remaining stubborn stains, dip a cotton swab into a cleaning solution and dab it onto the stain. This may take multiple applications, so repeat the process until the stain is gone.

Step 7 – Pat the Area Dry

Once the stain has been removed, pat the area dry with a towel. Allow the garment to air dry or use a blow dryer on the lowest setting to finish drying.

Conclusion

With these simple steps, you can quickly and easily get rid of those pesky dessert wine stains from your favorite Kate Spade dress. Even better, you can do it all without having to take it to the dry cleaner!
