When it comes to cleaning dessert wine stains, it’s important to act quickly to ensure they don’t become a permanent part of your wardrobe. Start by soaking the stained area in cold water as soon as possible after the spill occurs. Then, apply an enzyme detergent and rub gently with a soft brush. Finally, rinse the area with cold water and repeat the process until the stain is gone.
If the stain is still visible after the first treatment, try using a special stain remover like J Jill's Stain Away. It works to break down the proteins found in the wine, so stains can be easily washed away. You can also use white vinegar as a pre-soak before treating the stain with regular detergent.
Some dessert wines, such as Port or Sherry, are particularly challenging because of their high sugar content. For these types of stains, mix one part white vinegar with two parts warm water and soak the fabric for at least 30 minutes. Then, apply a commercial-grade stain remover and let it sit for 15 minutes. Finally, rinse the garment well and air dry.
No matter what type of dessert wine stain you’re dealing with, it’s important to follow the garment care instructions provided by J Jill. Depending on the fabric, you may need to have the item professionally cleaned. But with the right technique and the right products, you can easily get rid of those pesky dessert wine stains.
