Steps for Cleaning a Dessert Wine Stain

  1. Test fabric. Before beginning, check the care label on the headband. If the fabric is delicate, skip the vinegar and baking soda and take the headband to a professional cleaner instead.
  2. Apply detergent. Start by dabbing a small amount of Dawn detergent onto stained area. Gently massage it into the fabric.
  3. Scrub with toothbrush. Dip an old toothbrush into warm water. Use toothbrush to scrub the detergent into the stained area.
  4. Soak. Fill a small bowl with lukewarm water, then place the stained headband in water. Leave it for 20 minutes.
  5. Rinse and dry. Rinse the headband thoroughly under lukewarm water, then lay it on a white towel to dry.
  6. Use baking soda and vinegar. If the stain remains, mix together a scoop of baking soda and one cup of vinegar. Spread the paste over the stain, then let it sit for 15 minutes.
  7. Remove the paste. After 15 minutes, use a wet cotton swab to wipe away the baking soda and vinegar paste.
  8. Dry again. Once the paste is removed, lay the headband out on a white towel and let it air dry.
