Step 1: Blot Out the Stain

Wine stains are notorious for setting into fabric if not attended to immediately. To absorb excess liquid, quickly blot stained area with a paper towel or even a clean cloth. Don’t rub the stain as this will only spread the material deeper into the fabric.

Step 2: Mix a Solution to Treat the Stain

To break up the wine and prevent it from setting into the fabric permanently, mix a cleaning solution with following ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent
  • 1 cup of warm (not hot) water

Step 3: Treat the Stain

Once the solution is mixed, gently dab it onto the stained area. Allow the solution to penetrate the fabric for at least five minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.

Step 4: Rinse, Repeat, and Launder

If the stain is still present after treating with the solution, repeat steps 2 and 3 until the stain is gone. Finally, launder the item in the washing machine according to care instructions, using cold water and liquid laundry detergent.
