The first step to getting rid of a dessert wine stain is to act fast. Blot the stain with a clean cloth as soon as possible. Start at the outer edge of stain and move inward towards the center. Do not rub the area as this will spread the stain and make it worse.
Once you have blotted stain, pre-treat the stained area with a fabric-safe cleaning solution or detergent. Allow the solution to soak into the fabric for approximately 15 minutes, then rinse the area with warm water.
The next step is to use a mild detergent to gently wash stained area. If you are using a laundry machine, set the cycle to gentle and use a cool wash setting. For hand washing, dilute a small amount of detergent in lukewarm water and use a soft cloth to gently scrub the stained area.
After you have washed the stained area, inspect it closely to make sure the stain has been removed. If there is still a visible stain, you can try treating the area with white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide. Apply either of these solutions directly to the stain and allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse the area with warm water and then repeat the cleaning process.
Once the stain has been completely removed, hang the garment in a well-ventilated area and allow it to air dry. Avoid putting the garment in the dryer since this can cause the stain to set. Once dry, inspect the garment to make sure the stain has been completely removed.
