- Hydrogen peroxide
- A bristle brush or toothbrush
- Laundry detergent
Steps to Clean a Dessert Wine Stain from Chantilly Lace
- As soon as possible after the stain has occurred, take a damp cloth and gently blot the stain, lifting away as much of the wine as possible.
- Mix a solution of one part white vinegar to two parts warm water. Take an old toothbrush or bristled brush and dip it in solution and use it to gently scrub the affected area.
- Once the wine stain has been removed, rinse the area with cold water and pat dry with a cloth or paper towel.
- If the stain persists, mix one part hydrogen peroxide to two parts water and use the same dipping-and-scrubbing technique.
- Once stain is gone, if desired, pretreat the area with detergent and then launder the item according to the instructions on care label.
Tips to Keep in Mind
- Time is of the essence! Treat the stain as soon as possible. The longer it sits, the harder it can be to remove.
- When using your cleaning solutions, be sure to work from the outside of the stain inward to prevent it from spreading.
- When laundering, always check the care label for instructions. Some delicate fabrics may need to be hand-washed instead.
