Before beginning your cleaning process, make sure you pre-treat the affected area of the Carrickmacross lace. Start by dampening the area with cool water, then apply a small amount of liquid detergent and gently rub it in.
After you’ve pre-treated the affected area, take a clean, white towel and blot the stain gently. Make sure not to scrub or rub harshly as this will damage the lace fabric.
Next, create a vinegar rinse mixture by combining white vinegar, tepid water and a few drops of liquid detergent in a bowl. Stir mixture together until the liquid detergent has dissolved. The vinegar helps break down the stain and the detergent prevents further discoloration.
Take your vinegar rinse mixture and gently squeeze it onto the stain. Make sure you evenly distribute the mixture to ensure all parts of the stain are covered.
Let the vinegar rinse mixture set on the stain for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the vinegar to break down the stain as much as possible.
Once the vinegar mixture has set, place the stained area of Carrickmacross lace into the washing machine. Set machine to the delicate cycle and use cold water. Once the cycle is complete, remove the lace from machine and check to see if the stain is still present.
Last but not least, hang the lace up to air dry. Avoid using a cloth drying rack or tumble dryer as this could cause further damage to the fabric.
