The first step to removing a dessert wine stain is to gently blot the stain with a clean absorbent cloth or paper towel. It is important to dab the stain rather than rub it so that you don’t spread stain further into the cardigan fabric.
After blotting stain, mix baking soda and water together to create a paste. Apply the paste to the stain, let it dry, and then brush off the baking soda residue. This will help lift the stain from the fabric.
To further remove the stain, mix together two parts white vinegar and one part cold water and lightly dampen the stained area with it. Allow solution to sink in for about 10 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water.
Once you’ve pre-treated the stain, you can wash your cardigan as usual. Consider using a color-safe bleach to ensure that the stain doesn’t return. Hang your cardigan to dry in a well-ventilated area.
