Gather the following supplies before you start: paper towels, water, liquid detergent, white vinegar, and baking soda.
Grab one of the paper towels and use it to soak up any excess wine in the area of the stain. Be sure to press firmly to absorb as much of the liquid as possible.
In a small bowl, mix together a teaspoon of liquid detergent with one cup of water. If you have a delicate fabric, add a few drops of vinegar to the mixture—this will help prevent the fabric from becoming damaged.
Using a cloth or a brush, gently apply the detergent solution to stain. Let it sit for at least 10 minutes before moving on to the next step.
Rinse the stained area with cold water. If there is still a hint of the stain visible, repeat steps four and five.
If the stain is still visible, try creating a mixture of half a cup of baking soda and two cups of cold water. Apply this mixture to the stained area and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water and repeat the process if necessary.
With these simple steps, you should be able to easily remove dessert wine stains from calico fabric. If the stains persist, however, it's best to consult a professional.
