What You'll Need

  • White Towels
  • Water
  • Dish Soap
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Stain Remover

Step 1: Blotting the Stain

The first thing you want to do is blot the stain with a white towel. This will help to remove as much of wine as possible. Be sure to not press down too hard or rub fabric, as this may cause damage. Once you've removed as much of liquid as possible, rinse the stained area lightly with cold water.

Step 2: Soaking in Soapy Water

Once the stain has been blotted and rinsed, fill a bowl with warm water and add a few drops of dish soap. Submerge the stained area in the soapy solution and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. This will help to loosen the stain and make the cleaning process easier.

Step 3: Laundering

After stain has been soaked, rinse the area with cold water and then launder the suit as usual. Be sure to use a mild laundry detergent and never use hot water. Once the suit has been washed, inspect the area for any remaining stains. If the stain is still visible, repeat Steps 1–3.

For stubborn stains, you may need to use a commercial stain remover. Apply remover according to the directions listed on the package and then launder the garment as normal. You may need to repeat this process multiple times for best results.

By using the above methods, you should be able to effectively clean a red wine stain out of your business suit. Remember, patience is key – it may take several rounds of cleaning to get rid of the stain completely!
