Immediately begin blotting up the spill with a cloth or paper towel. Scrub gently with a soft-bristled sauce brush to remove any residue. Once you’ve done this, use clean, white rags to blot up as much liquid as possible.
Sprinkle some club soda on the affected area and then sponge away. If stain is particularly stubborn, repeat process several times until the stain lightens.
Combine one tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent with two cups of clear, warm water. Dampen a white cloth with the solution and then apply it to the area rug to rinse off theclub soda.
Combine equal parts vinegar and warm water in a bowl. Sponge stained portion of your rug with the mixture, working from the outside of the stain toward the center. Rinse thoroughly with cold water and a clean, damp cloth.
Let the rug air dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Once it’s dry, vacuum it lightly (but do not rub) to help restore the original texture.
Wine spillages can be frustrating, but with this helpful guide the stains don't have to stay around for long. With just a few items found around home and following steps outlined above, that red wine spot on your area rug, won't ruin your evening.
