Dessert wines such as port or sherry can leave an indelible mark on fabrics. To save your anoraks from being stained, here’s what you need to do.

Instructions

  1. Act fast. The longer you delay, the tougher it will be for you to get rid of the stain. Blot spill with a paper towel and dab the fabric gently to absorb the liquid.
  2. If any residue remains, mix one teaspoon of white vinegar with one teaspoon of water and pour it directly over the stain. Let it sit for a couple minutes.
  3. Soak a clean cloth in lukewarm water and wring it out. Use the damp cloth to rub the stained spot.
  4. Finish off with a stain remover liquid. Apply it directly to the affected area and use a clean cloth to rub it in.
  5. Rinse the garment with cold water until the suds are gone. Place garment in a standard washing machine with the rest of your laundry wash.
  6. Hang the anorak up to dry. Do not put it in dryer.

Tips

  • Be sure to test the stain remover solution on a hidden part of the garment before using it.
  • Wash garment as normal after treating the stain.
  • To prevent the stain from spreading further, use a dry cloth to blot it.

Warnings

  • Avoid using hot or warm water while treating the stain as this may cause the stain to set in permanently.
  • Never put an anorak in dryer—it is best to let it air dry.
