The most important step when dealing with any kind of stain is to act fast and remove as much of the liquid as possible. With dessert wine stains, carefully take a cloth and gently blot the area to absorb as much of the liquid as you can.
If the stain is still wet, use a pre-treatment or spot remover and apply directly to the stained area. Follow the instructions on the product and be sure not to rub or scrub the stain; just let pre-treatment do the work for you.
Regardless of whether the stain is still wet or dry, it’s important that you wash the garment as soon as possible; even if you think the stain has been removed. Start by setting the washing machine to the appropriate setting for fabric type and temperature, then add detergent and put the garment in the washer. Allow the cycle to complete and check the stain once the wash has finished. If the stain is still visible repeat steps 2 and 3.
Once the wash cycle is complete, remove garment and check the stain. If the stain is not visible, you can now place the garment in the dryer. Be sure to choose the appropriate setting for the fabric type and temperature.
If after the wash and dry cycle, the stain is still visible, repeat these steps until it has been completely removed. It may take several attempts, but eventually the stain should disappear, leaving your American Eagle apparel looking good as new.
