What You'll Need

  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • Oxygen-based bleach
  • White or light colored towels

Step 1: Pre-Treat with Detergent

Start by pressing the area with a soiled towel to absorb any excess wax. Then, use a liquid laundry detergent to pre-treat the stain. Work detergent into the fabric with your fingers and let it sit for 15 minutes.

Step 2: Soak

Once the pre-treatment is done, fill a bucket or basin with warm water and add an oxygen-based bleach, such as OxiClean or Clorox2. Completely submerge the garment and let it soak for 30 minutes.

Step 3: Wash and Dry

After soaking, wash the garment according to instructions on label. Hang to dry or place in the dryer on low heat.

Additional Tips

  • If the stain is still present after washing, treat it again with a pre-treatment solution and soak in the oxygen bleach before washing.
  • Color-safe bleach can be used if the garment is not white, but be sure to test it first on an inconspicuous area of the garment.
  • Crayon stains can also be treated with rubbing alcohol or hairspray.
