To start, you'll need to find out what type of crayon made the stain. It's important to know, because different types require different cleaning methods. If it's a wax crayon, proceed with steps outlined below. If the crayon is oil- or grease-based, you'll need to take a different approach.
Use an old toothbrush or a butter knife to gently scrape away the excess wax or crayon from the fabric. Don't press too hard as you don't want to damage the fabric. Also, be sure to brush in the same direction as the nap of fabric. This will ensure the fabric doesn't become matted or misshapen.
Mix a teaspoon of liquid detergent with a cup of warm water in a bowl. Dip corner of a white cloth or paper towel into the mixture, then dab it onto the stained area. Scrub gently in a circular motion until the stain starts to lift. Keep reapplying the liquid detergent and water mixture until all traces of the stain are removed.
Once all the wax has been removed, rinse the area with cool water. Gently pat the fabric dry with a soft cloth or paper towel. You may need to repeat the rinsing and drying process a few times until all the detergent residue is gone.
