How to Easily Clean Crayon Stains off Tussah Silk

Tussah silk is a luxurious and high-quality fabric made from the cocoons of wild silkworms. As with any delicate fabric, it’s important to take great care when cleaning it. Crayon stains can seem like a challenge to remove, but it doesn’t have to be if you know the proper steps.

What You'll Need

  • A sponge
  • Stain remover
  • Sink or basin
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Dry cloth

Instructions

  1. Begin by dampening a sponge in warm water. Gently rub the stain using sponge until you begin to see crayon start to come off.
  2. Apply a generous amount of stain remover to the area. Allow the stain remover to sit for at least 5 minutes.
  3. When the time has passed, fill a basin or sink with lukewarm water and mix in some white vinegar. Place the fabric in the water/vinegar mixture and allow it to soak for 10 minutes.
  4. After 10 minutes, take the fabric out of the mixture and rinse with clean water.
  5. Sprinkle baking soda directly on the stain and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  6. Gently blot area with a dry cloth, removing any remaining crayon and residue.
  7. Allow fabric to air dry completely before re wearing.
