Cleaning Crayon Stains from Tartan? Here's How to Do It!

What You'll Need

  • Mild laundry detergent
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol
  • Clean towels

Cleaning the Stain

  1. Start by using a butter knife or other flat object to scrape off as much of crayon wax as possible.
  2. Mix one teaspoon of laundry detergent with two cups of warm water. Use a clean towel to blot mixture onto stained area.
  3. Allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes.
  4. Blot the stained area with a towel until the stain is no longer visible.
  5. Mix one teaspoon of liquid dish soap and one cup of isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Blot the mixture onto the stained area.
  6. Allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes.
  7. Rinse area with cold water and blot dry with a clean towel.

Tips

  • Be sure to test the cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area before applying it directly to the stain.
  • If the stain is still visible after the first round of cleaning, repeat the steps above.
  • You may also need to consider getting a professional cleaner if the stain persists.
