Steps for Removing Crayon Stains

  1. Scrape off the excess crayon wax with a dull knife or spoon.
  2. Apply a heavy-duty laundry pre-treatment product such as a spray-on liquid detergent directly to the stain.
  3. Wet the stained area with cold water and let the pre-treatment soak into the material for about five minutes. Don’t use hot or warm water, as this will only set the stain.
  4. Rinse the pre-treatment off with cold water and launder the item with cold water.
  5. If any of the stain remains, mix up a solution of one quart of water and two tablespoons of dishwashing liquid. Soak the item in the solution for at least 30 minutes. If possible, lay the item flat in the solution.
  6. Drain soaking solution and rinse the item in cold water. If any of the stain remains, repeat the process.

Important Tips

  • Be sure to always follow the care instructions on your garment’s label. Garments made from natural fibers should only be washed with cold water.
  • If the stain persists, take the item to a dry cleaner who specializes in stain removal.
  • Be sure to act quickly when you notice a crayon stain. This will help prevent the stain from setting.

With these tips, you’ll be able to easily remove crayon stains from your sweaters!
