If stain is still wet, immediately blot it with an old towel. Work from the outside in, pressing gently to absorb as much crayon wax as possible. Be careful not to spread the stain. Do not rub the stain, as this may cause it to become more permanent.
Once crayon wax has been blotted off, create a solution of water and mild dish soap. Dampen a cloth with the solution, then gently dab the stained area. Don’t rub or scrub the fabric, as this can damage the spandex—just press lightly and turn the cloth over as needed so you don’t re-contaminate the area. Rinse the cloth in clean water and repeat as necessary.
If the stain remains, pretreat with laundry detergent and white vinegar. Combine 1 teaspoon of laundry detergent and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar in a small bowl. Apply this mixture to the stained area, and allow it to sit for about 15 minutes. Then, rinse with clean water.
After pretreating with detergent and vinegar, take the spandex garment to the washing machine. Use the hottest water temperature allowed for the specific fabric and add detergent as usual. After washing, air dry the garment and inspect the area for any remaining stains. If the crayon stain is still visible, repeat the above steps until it’s gone.
