What You Will Need:

  • A sponge or soft cloth
  • Painter’s tape
  • White distilled vinegar
  • Cornstarch or talcum powder
  • Dry Cleaning Solvent

Steps to Clean Crayon Stains from Silk:

  1. Before you begin cleaning, it is important to test any cleaning product on a hidden area of the fabric first. This will ensure that it will not damage or discolor the silk.
  2. Once you have tested the product, use painter’s tape to secure fabric around the stain so that it doesn’t spread as you clean.
  3. For the initial cleaning, mix a solution of equal parts white distilled vinegar and water. Dip a soft cloth or sponge into the solution and gently dab at the stain. Do not rub the stain as this could damage the fabric.
  4. After you have blotted away as much of the stain as possible, sprinkle some cornstarch or talcum powder onto the stain. Allow the powder to sit on stain for 30 minutes before you brush it off.
  5. If the stain still remains, use a dry cleaning solvent to remove any stubborn residue.
  6. Once all of the stain has been removed, dab the area with a clean cloth soaked in cold water. This will help to remove any remaining residue and also help fabric to dry quicker.
