It can be difficult to remove stubborn, brightly-colored crayon stains from robes. Being permanently woven into the fabric of the garment, washing them with regular detergent usually isn't enough. Fortunately, there are easy techniques you can use to get your robes looking good as new.
The first step is to pre-treat the stain. Start by saturating it with a mixture of warm water and liquid dish detergent. Let the mixture sit on stain for five minutes before scrubbing the area gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Once done, rinse the area carefully with cold water.
Next, create a vinegar cleaning solution that you can use to further break down the crayon stain. Make one by mixing one tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of warm water. Saturate the affected area with the solution and let it stand for several minutes.
After that, take an old toothbrush and lightly scrub the entire stained area. Rinse the solution away, and if necessary, apply more until stain has vanished. Finally, machine-wash the robe in cold water and hang it up to dry.
If regular white vinegar fails to do the trick, you can also try using a non-acidic cleaner. Choose one that is specifically designed for treating crayon stains and follow its instructions when applying it.
This method involves combining one teaspoon of ammonia with one-fourth cup of detergent and one quart of warm water. Mix all the ingredients together and use the solution to saturate the crayon-stained area of the robe. Let it soak for 30 minutes before rinsing away the solution and washing the robe normally.
With these simple tips, you can easily remove crayon stains from robes. After following any of these methods, make sure to hang the robe up to air-dry in the sun.
