Materials Needed

  • Cleaning cloth
  • Dish soap
  • White Vinegar
  • Hairspray
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Baking Soda

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Scrape off excess crayon with a spoon.
  2. Mix 1 part dish soap with 10 parts warm water in a container.
  3. Dip a cleaning cloth into mixture and rub it onto the stained area.
  4. Wipe the surface again with a damp cloth.
  5. If the stain is still present, mix 1 part white vinegar with 1 part warm water in a different container.
  6. Put the solution onto the stain and scrub with a cleaning cloth.
  7. Rinse off the mixture with a damp cloth.
  8. Spray the stain with some hairspray and rub it in with a cleaning cloth.
  9. Allow hairspray to sit on the stain for a few minutes before wiping it.
  10. If the stain persists, apply some rubbing alcohol to the affected area and scrub it gently.
  11. Finish off by sprinkling baking soda onto the affected area and brushing it off after 5 minutes.

Tips for Cleaning Crayon Stains

  • Pick a spot to start cleaning from and work your way outward.
  • Be sure to use a mild detergent and warm water to avoid damaging the shoe.
  • Test out cleaning solutions on an inconspicuous area of shoe before using it on the stain.
  • There are other solvents like acetone that can be used to remove tough stains. Be sure to use them with caution.
