Step 1: Scrape off Excess Crayon Material

Start by scraping away as much of the crayon off overalls as you can. Use something with a hard edge, such as a spoon, to help remove the material without damaging the fabric. Once most of wax is off the garment, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Spot Clean the Stain

Fill a bucket with warm water and a few drops of gentle detergent. Use a clean sponge or cloth and gently dab the stain with the soapy mixture. It's important to not rub the stain, due to the risk of spreading the wax. Continue this process until the wax is fully dissolved.

Step 3: Wash Overall

Put the overall in the washing machine on a gentle cycle, using cold water. Do not use hot water, as this can cause the wax to set into the fabric. Select an appropriate product, such as a color-safe bleach, to help break down any remaining wax.

Step 4: Let Dry and Inspect

Allow the overall to air dry and inspect the garment for any remaining wax. If there is still any wax residue on the fabric, repeat steps 2 and 3 until all marks are removed. Once the overalls are completely dry and the stain is gone, you can consider the job complete!

Conclusion

Cleaning crayon marks from overalls can seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. With right products, tools and process, you can get stubborn wax stains out of even the most delicate fabrics and get your kids’ overalls looking good as new.
