Step 1: Determine Fabric Type

In order to properly clean any type of stain, it is important to identify the fabric of your loafers. If they are made out of leather, suede, or canvas, you will need to use different cleaning methods than if the material is synthetic. To test the fabric, sprinkle a few drops of water onto the surface of your shoe. If the water beads and does not seep into the fabric, it most likely is made of a synthetic material. If the water saturates fabric and leaves a discolored spot, fabric is likely leather, suede, or canvas.

Step 2: Gather Cleaning Supplies

Once you know the material of your loafers, you can gather the necessary cleaning supplies. You will need a soft cloth, warm water, mild detergent, white vinegar, and rubbing alcohol (if necessary). Make sure to avoid using bleach, abrasive cleaners, or any other harsh chemicals as they may damage the fabric of your loafers.

Step 3: Start Cleaning

To start removing the crayon stain, first slightly dampen cloth with warm water. Gently blot stained area until the crayon begins to soften and lift off of fabric. Take your time so that you do not end up pushing the crayon further into the fabric. Once the crayon has been removed, rinse the cloth and use it to clean the area of any remaining residue. You may need to repeat this process multiple times to fully remove stain.

For synthetic materials, you can also try using a small amount of mild detergent and warm water. Apply detergent directly to the stain and gently rub it into the fabric with your finger. Rub it in circular motions until the crayon lifts from the fabric, then rinse with warm water.

If the stains still remain on your loafers, you can try using white vinegar or rubbing alcohol. Apply either one directly to the stain and allow it to sit for several minutes. Use a damp cloth to gently blot the stain until it is removed. Rinse with warm water to remove any residue.

Step 4: Allow to Air Dry

Once the stain has been removed, allow your loafers to air dry completely before wearing them again. Avoid using a hairdryer or placing the shoes near a heater or direct sunlight, as this can damage the fabric.
