Removing Crayon from Washable Fabrics

The first step is to determine what type of fabric your jacket is made of – if it is washable, then you can move onto the next stage. Start by laying the fabric out flat and using a dull knife or spoon to scrape off any excess crayon that is still visible. You don’t want to rub too hard as this could cause further damage to your garment.

Once as much of the crayon as possible is removed, place the fabric in a bucket filled with warm water and a small amount of dish soap. Let the fabric soak in the soapy water for about an hour before removing it. Rinse the fabric under cold water, and then use a white cloth to rub a few drops of liquid detergent directly onto the stain.

Allow the detergent to sit on the stain for five minutes, then rinse it off thoroughly. Repeat this process until the crayon is completely gone. Once all traces of the stain are gone, run fabric through the washer as normal.

Removing Crayon from Dry Clean Only Fabrics

If the fabric of your jacket is labeled “dry clean only,” then you will need to take special care to remove the crayon without damaging the fabric. Begin by scraping off as much of the crayon as possible with a dull knife or spoon. Take care not to rub too hard as you don’t want to damage the fabric.

Next, mix together a solution of 1 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of water. Dip a white cloth into the solution and gently dab at the stain. Make sure not to rub too hard, as this could cause more damage to the fabric. Continue to dab the stain until it is completely removed.

Finally, have item dry cleaned professionally. This will help remove any residue that remains from the crayon stain, and will make sure your jacket is looking good as new.
